Experience wheel throwing in this 2-hour introductory session. This class is perfect for beginners who want to test drive the pottery wheel.

Students will get a brief overview of the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel, including learning how to transform a ball of clay into a vessel/cylinder.

While Makers & Clay cannot guarantee the outcome of your creations, each student is welcome to keep up to two pieces. They will fire and glaze your pieces for you, and they'll be ready for pickup in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

All materials and tools are provided. They recommend you wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting a little muddy.

All classes start promptly, so be sure to arrive early to ensure enough time to park and check-in at the studio. (There is a large public lot right next door to the studio.)

Guided Studio Tour:
  • Overview of the stages of clay
  • How pieces are processed through the studio
  • Q&A session

Fee: $60 with MAFA discount (normally $85)

Minimum participants: 3
Maximum participants: 9

Register and pay by noon on Tuesday, July 30 on the MAFA website at monroviafinearts.org/events
